Qatar Airways has launched its own version of Spontaneous Escapes, with 25% off selected Avios awards – including Jakarta to Europe for 60,000 miles in Business Class.
Singapore Airlines has been running its monthly KrisFlyer Spontaneous Escapes promotion for many years now, and yet these regular discounted award tickets remain one of the most popular things we cover here at Mainly Miles.
Now Qatar Airways, which uses Avios points as its award currency, has just launched something very similar for its own Privilege Club programme, with a monthly discount on award redemptions offered in a rolling cycle of short booking windows and relatively near-term travel dates.
The deal was first analysed here by Head for Points, who were also the first to flag a rather useful quirk in the way it prices. More on that shortly, because it’s the part that makes the deal more relevant to our readers than it might first look.
The headline is a 25% discount on standard (non-Flexi) Avios award rates for flights between a handful of selected cities and Qatar’s Doha hub, in Business Class or Economy Class.
That’s a slightly smaller discount than the 30% KrisFlyer typically offers on its Spontaneous Escapes deals, but as we’ll explain, this one is considerably more flexible in almost every other respect, including the fact that these awards are still refundable, rather than the ‘use it or lose it’ terms attached to a Spontaneous Escapes booking.

According to Head for Points, that pattern of a 10-day booking window and a two-month travel window is expected to be the standard shape of these promotions going forward, so it’s worth keeping an eye on which cities appear in future rounds.
As with SIA’s Spontaneous Escapes deal, we expect this to vary based on seasonal demand patterns, so don’t rule out Singapore ever making the cut in future.

There’s no dedicated landing page on the Qatar Airways website yet, which means there are no published terms and conditions for us to pick apart. For now, the discount simply appears in the award search results for eligible dates and routings.
Update: Qatar Airways has now launched its dedicated promotion page for this offer, which it’s calling “Redemption Discount”.

Note that these are off-peak prices. The 25% discount still applies on peak dates, but you’ll be starting from a higher base rate.
The clever bit: the discount doesn’t stop at Doha
Here’s what makes the offer significantly more useful, as spotted by Head for Points.
If your itinerary starts or ends in one of the cities listed above, the 25% discount applies to the entire journey, including the onward sector beyond Doha, even when your actual final destination isn’t part of the deal at all.
Jakarta is on this month’s Business Class list, so a Jakarta – Doha flight prices at a discount, as you’d expect.

But Rome is not on the list, and a Jakarta – Doha – Rome itinerary, usually 80,000 Avios in Business Class, still picks up the same 25% saving across both sectors.

The same applies in reverse.
Paris – Doha – Jakarta is discounted identically, even though Paris once again is not part of the deal. Provided your travel dates fall inside the offer window and the cheapest award space is available on both sectors, the same pricing applies.

Colombo’s inclusion opens up the same trick from Sri Lanka, with Paris – Doha – Colombo pricing coming in at just 48,750 Avios in Business Class, instead of the usual 65,000.

That’s a superb rate for a long-haul Business Class flight from Europe, though of less practical use to most of our readers than the Jakarta option, since it means tacking on a long positioning flight to or from Sri Lanka at the start or end of your trip.
What this means from Singapore
Singapore isn’t on this month’s list, but Jakarta is one of the more convenient positioning points in the region, being a little over 1 hour 40 minutes from Changi, with a huge range of daily flights on Singapore Airlines, Scoot, Garuda, Batik Air and others, and Qatar Airways’ own Doha services depart the city at various timings.
That makes a Jakarta start (or finish) the most realistic way for a Singapore-based reader to use this month’s deal, with Doha connections onward to a very long list of European, African and North American cities, all picking up the same 25% saving provided the lowest-priced awards are available.
The reverse trick – redeem back to Asia
There’s a second option here for readers who don’t fancy a Jakarta positioning flight.
Because the discount attaches to the itinerary rather than to a specific sector, you can start your journey in Warsaw or Berlin (for Business Class) and fly all the way back to a non-offer city like Singapore, Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur – with the whole thing discounted by 25%.
The same works outbound, redeeming from those Asian cities into Berlin or Warsaw.
The catch is award space. Qatar’s Business Class availability to and from Singapore, Bangkok and Kuala Lumpur is almost non-existent over the next couple of months (i.e. during the offer window), and you need the cheapest award bucket to be open on both sectors for the discount to apply.
Jakarta, on the other hand, has a far wider range of dates open, which is another reason it’s the practical option this month.

Munich and Geneva are on the Economy Class list, so the same logic applies there for anyone redeeming in the back cabin.

The 30% headline on the KrisFlyer side is the better number, but the Qatar version wins on nearly everything else, with one difference in particular that’s surprising.
You can actually cancel these awards
The single biggest drawback of a Spontaneous Escapes booking is that it’s completely locked in. No changes, no refunds, no retaining the ticket for future use. You need 100% firm travel plans before you commit your miles.
Qatar’s ‘Special Offer’ discounted awards remain refundable on the airline’s standard terms:
US$25 per passenger if you cancel more than 24 hours before departure
US$100 per passenger if you cancel between 24 hours and 3 hours before departure
That means there’s very little downside to locking in a routing you’re fairly sure about and firming up the details later. It’s a very different proposition to the KrisFlyer deal, and for many readers it will more than make up for the smaller headline discount.
Business Class perks are unchanged
These are ordinary Qatar Airways Business Class awards with a discount applied, not a stripped-down promo product, so the usual benefits all come along for the ride:
Lounge access at Doha and at eligible departure airports
40kg checked baggage allowance
Priority check-in, boarding and baggage handling
If your connection at Doha lands in the right window, that includes the Al Mourjan Business Lounge and the new Garden Lounge – no bad way to break up a journey.
How to book
You have to book these discounted awards through Qatar Airways Privilege Club directly.
They do not appear at ba.com, even though British Airways Club can normally be used to redeem Avios on Qatar Airways flights at equivalent rates. Search there and you’ll simply see the standard rate.
If your Avios balance sits with British Airways, you’ll need to use the ‘Move Avios’ facility to shift them across to your Qatar Airways Privilege Club account first. That transfer is instant and free, as we’ve covered on the site a few times before.
There’s one further restriction that will rule this out for some readers entirely. Qatar Airways currently only allows you to redeem Avios for yourself unless you’ve previously credited a paid flight on Qatar Airways or any Oneworld partner to your Privilege Club account, in which case you can nominate others via ‘My List’.
If you’ve never done so and you’re hoping to book for a partner or family member, that’s a problem, and it’s not something you can fix in the 10-day booking window.
If you fly Oneworld metal with any regularity, it’s probably worth crediting a paid sector to Privilege Club now, so that option becomes open to you next time one of these deals lands.
Qatar Airways has launched what looks a bit like its own version of Spontaneous Escapes – a monthly, short-notice Avios promotion offering 25% off standard award rates between a rotating list of cities and its Doha hub.
For this first round you’ll need to book by 14th August 2026, for travel between 5th August and 30th September 2026.
The great part is that the discount applies to your whole itinerary, not just the discounted sector, so as long as one end of your journey touches an eligible city, everything beyond Doha comes down by 25% too.
For Singapore-based readers, Jakarta is the clear pick of this month’s list, since it’s close enough to position to cheaply, and with far better Business Class award availability than Qatar’s Singapore, Bangkok or Kuala Lumpur services over the next two months.
Jakarta – Doha – Paris in Business Class for 60,000 Avios one-way instead of 80,000 is a strong rate, and there’s the Qsuite to look forward to on the Doha – Paris sector.
Unlike a Spontaneous Escapes booking, these awards remain refundable, which takes away most of the risk from speculatively locking one in.
Head for Points reports that this will become a monthly fixture with a rolling 10-day booking window, so it’s certainly one we’ll keep tracking here as the city list changes, especially if a more convenient origin point like Singapore or Kuala Lumpur appears in a future round.
