Islamic finance property in Doha Information best QR718.5bn in 2025, says document
, a global development institution focused exclusively on the private sector in developing countries.</p><p> </p><p>According to Wagner Albuquerque de Almeida, Regional Industry director for Manufacturing, Agribusiness and Services (MAS) at the IFC, a member of the World Bank Group (WBG), Qatar has “done a fantastic job” reducing the volatility and the risks of food security that the IFC has observed in the past.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Almeida recently spoke at the launch of a food security and agrifood investment study hosted by the US-Qatar Business Council Doha (USQBC Doha), in partnership with IFC, where he described Qatar’s domestic resilience as a commercial advantage that attracts investment and stabilises supply chains.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>He also lauded Qatar for achieving 98% self sufficiency in dairy and poultry, which he noted as a “remarkable achievement” that strengthens the country’s agrifood base. According to Almeida, Qatar is ranked “fourth globally” in food affordability, despite importing most of its food, underscoring the strength of its supply chains. He explained that affordability is sustained through stable trade networks, which create predictable conditions for investors.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>He noted that Qatar supplies about 14% of global urea exports, making it a critical player in agricultural inputs. “This dual capacity, domestic resilience and international supply, positions Qatar as a hub for agrifood resilience in emerging and developing markets,” Almeida pointed out.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>He emphasised that food security cannot be solved by one actor alone, noting that Qatar’s model demonstrates how government, private sector, and international partners can align to reduce volatility.</p><p> </p><p> </p><p>Almeida said Qatar’s achievements should be scaled across regions, linking upstream and downstream value chains to strengthen resilience for both Qatar and partner countries.</p><p>He noted that Qatar’s logistics capabilities and capital provide a platform for investment opportunities in the US$4tn global agrifood market. .</p><p> </p><p>Qatar has four Islamic banks among its 16 operating banks, two of which rank among the world’s top ten by assets. Qatar Islamic Bank (QIB) placed “sixth globally,” with Al Rayan Bank “seventh,” in 2025.</p><p> </p><p>In the takaful segment, total assets climbed “5.9%” to “QR4.7bn” in 2025, up from “QR4.4bn” in the previous year. Damaan Islamic Insurance Company (Beema) posted the sharpest growth at “20.3%,” followed by Alkhaleej Takaful Insurance at “2.4%” and Islamic Insurance Company at “1%.”</p><p> </p><p>Islamic finance companies recorded total assets of “QR2.6b,” a “3.9%” rise year-on-year, with Al Jazeera Finance leading the sector with asset growth of “9.1%.”</p><p> </p><p>The Islamic investment segment, comprising two companies, grew “4.8%” to “QR552.5mn.” The First Investor’s assets reached “QR492mn,” up “6.3%,” while Investment House declined “5.5%” to “QR60mn.”</p><p> </p><p>On the sukuk side, the QCB issued “QR10.1bn” worth of sukuk in 2025, which represented “43.4%” of total sukuk and bond issuances for the year. Over the past five years, the QCB’s sukuk issuances totalled “QR47.7bn,” accounting for “44.2%” of all government sukuk and bond issuances during that period.</p>%20%20%20%20<p>Related%20Story</p>
